The JDA is promoting a plan to cover the Begin Boulevard freeway. The plan creates a physical connection between the Beit Hakerem neighborhood and the National Campus by covering the central section of Begin Boulevard, between Byte intersection to the south and the Wolfson Bridge to the north.
The “new” area that will be created on top of the covering will serve primarily as open public space enabling pedestrian passage between the two neighborhoods and use of the area for walking; a small section will be zoned for commercial uses. Along the edges of the covered area, sections that are currently underused due to their proximity to the freeway will be utilized for purposes such as residential construction, commerce, sheltered housing, and public buildings.
