The JDA, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Jerusalem and Heritage, and the Jerusalem Municipality, is promoting the development of the public areas in the Museum Campus as a new center for tourism, culture, and leisure.

The Museum Campus at Givat Ram developed in a piecemeal manner since the inauguration of the Israel Museum in 1965. In addition to the museum, the area now also includes the Bible Lands Museum, the Science Museum, and the National Archeology Campus (the home of the Israel Antiquities Authority).

Over the coming years the new Nature Museum and the home of the Hebrew Academy are due to be constructed in the campus.

The plan seeks to shape the public space at the Museum Campus in a similar manner to museum campuses around the world, creating spaces for leisure, entertainment, and eating intended for tourists, Jerusalemites, and those visiting the museums, as well as workers from the adjacent Government Campus. As the plan progresses, the campus will gradually become a new culture and entertainment center attracting visitors and complementing the activities of the museums.
